Introduction
Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission recommended the State Government to create a separate Secretariat and Ministry for the all round Development of Backward Classes people comprising of about 55% of the State's total population. Accordingly a separate Secretariat called as "Backward Classes Welfare Department" was created Vide G.O No: ಸಿಆಸುಇ 394 ಸಅಸೇ 2012 dated:4th August 2012. The Administrative set up of this Secretariat is as follows: Backward Classes Welfare Department's Secretariat is headed by IAS Officer as Secretary /Principal Secretary. He is assisted by one Deputy Secretary, two Under Secretaries, Three Section Officers with necessary supporting staff.
